9:35– 10:20 SESSION I

Current Titles – Young Adult (Literature)
Virginia Beach Public Library
This session is a very good overview of what the public library likes for teen books. Did you know that “Charles and Emma: the Darwins’ Leap of Faith” discloses the Darwins as married first cousins? How about the fact that “Going Bovine” alludes to hallucinogenic drug trips and pot smoking/selling in high school (not that that does not go on)? Who would ever guess that “Panama” by Shelby Hiatt is curriculum based, but also deals with a two-year affair between the main character and a man of twenty-something? The main character is 15 at the beginning of the affair. And if that’s not enough, “Punkzilla’ has a main character strung out on Meth who has a gay older brother.
